Hospitality

Your child can be specifically remembered at the meeting held during the month of your child’s birthday. If you would like to bring your child’s favorite dessert, call 503-248-0102 and let us know what you will be bringing, so we can have the appropriate plates, forks, etc. You may also bring pictures or remembrances and say a few words about your child. Let one of the committee members know (the people with the white ribbons on their name tags) before the meeting starts, if you would like to speak.

Library

We have an assortment of books for bereaved parents, grandparents, and siblings. We also have an assortment of pamphlets from The National Compassionate Friends. These are available at our meetings.

Local TCF member, Terri Huber, has written a book on overcomming suicidal grief. People have asked where they can find Terri’s book, No Time Out For Grief, Surviving the death of my son. Besides being available in our library at the meetings, you may order it from amazon.com or call 1-877-823-9235. Part of the proceeds from the book go to MADD (Alex had not been drinking) and the Feingold Association for hyperactive children.

Another book written by Portland authors, Tear Soup, is available in our library. Written by Pat Schwiebert and Chuck DeKlyen and illustrated by Taylor Bills, it tells the story of an older woman, who makes tear soup from her own recipe. No one else understands why she makes tear soup until she meets others, who have suffered a loss also, and they all bring their own tear soup. This book is for any loss at any age and for either for the bereaved or those trying to understand someone else’s bereavement. One of the authors, Pat, many years ago founded the Portland Oregon Chapter of The Compassionate Friends. For each book purchased from us, Pat has graciously offered to donate $5 to our chapter. Thanks Pat!
